It is very upsetting for the whole family when a child has an accident. There are special rules relating to child claims and Gordons Injury Lawyers can guide you through them.
Children (ie someone under 18) cannot represent themselves in a claim for compensation. Instead, an adult must do it for them. The adult involved is called a Litigation Friend and is usually, but not necessarily, a parent.
When a child compensation claim is completed, special Court Proceedings are normally brought, called Infant Settlement Proceedings. This is the case, even where liability is not in issue and the claim is settling amicably.
Court approval is normally required and the monies paid by way of compensation are paid directly by the paying party to the Court Funds Office in London and invested for the child until his or her 18th birthday.
Gordons Injury Lawyers are fully experienced in child claims and will not only deal with the claim but will also represent the child and the Litigation Friend in the necessary Court proceedings.
